Switzerland Insider

Have you ever been to a place where you could literally see 6 countries from one spot? That’s what I got to do at Säntis, a mountain that’s more than just a hike and a view. It’s like stepping into a storybook version of Switzerland, but real and just as magical. Located in Eastern Switzerland, it’s undoubtedly the alpine highlight of the region.

Benches on Säntis

How to get to Säntis?

The journey to the top starts with a cable car ride from Schwägalp that takes about ten minutes. You will reach Schwägalp by Postauto (post bus) that departs from either Urnäsch or Nesslau. And trust me, those ten minutes are packed with “wow” moments. If you are lucky like I was, you get to ride out of the Nebelmeer (sea of fog) into sunshine!

What to do on Säntis?

Once you’re up there, it’s not just about snapping photos of the view (although you’ll probably take hundreds). There’s this cool exhibition called “Säntis – the Weather Mountain” that dives into all things weather. You get to learn about clouds, storms, and why the view from Säntis is so clear and vast. Plus, there are paths and lookout points everywhere, so you can really soak in the 360-degree views of Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Austria and Liechtenstein.

The restaurant at the top also really stands out. Picture having a meal while you’re surrounded by mountains, eating food made from ingredients that come right from the area.
