💡 A Note on Train Pass Calculations
It’s no surprise everybody obsesses over Swiss train passes. Unlike hotels or flights, train passes have fixed prices. They don’t change daily. That makes them easy to put in a spreadsheet, so people calculate, compare, and recalculate… sometimes to the point of panic.
But here’s the reality:
There’s no single “perfect pass” that’s always the cheapest, most convenient, and most flexible. If it existed, everyone would just buy it.
Chasing the last 20 francs of “savings” on a train pass often ignores the soft factors that matter more: convenience, flexibility, and peace of mind.
Meanwhile, the real leverage in saving money (and stress) is elsewhere:
Choosing the right base → the difference between Interlaken, Grindelwald, the Lauterbrunnen Valley and a cozy village on Lake Brienz can mean hundreds of francs in hotels, transport time, and convenience. (Check out my free Swiss Base Check)
Knowing what you actually want to do each day → when you have a clear plan, you save both time and money. That’s exactly what my Switzerland Travel Guides give you, with day-by-day itineraries and activities already thought out.
So yes, I’ll help you choose the best pass for your trip. But remember: you’ll save much more, and enjoy Switzerland more, when you combine the right pass with the right base and a clear plan.
